A Fond Farewell and New Beginnings

Hello Artists, Friends, and VALA Members,

It has been one of my greatest honors to lead the VALA organization over these past several years—walking alongside some of the most passionate, creative, and generous souls I’ve had the privilege to call both colleagues and friends.

With great pride and affection, I’m announcing that I will be stepping away from my role at VALA as I embark on the next chapter of my life in the beautiful state of Colorado. This move has been a long-held dream for me and my family, and we’re thrilled that it’s finally becoming a reality.

As I take this step forward, I invite you to join me in warmly welcoming Jose Angel Hernandez as VALA’s new Interim Chairman/President. Jose is a gifted artist, a dedicated community leader, and a steadfast presence on the VALA Board. His experience and heart for the arts have long enriched our organization, and I have every confidence in the vision he brings for the road ahead.

I’m equally thrilled about the addition of five new Board Members who will help carry the torch of VALA’s mission and guide its evolving vision:
Daniele Jones, Sherri Kneip, Adyna Akins, Lynnie Lang, and Geetha Rao.

These remarkable individuals have already begun integrating into their roles over the past few months and are doing a beautiful job stepping into their responsibilities. They join the continuing Board members—Jose Angel Hernandez, Lori Ruml, Wendy McIntyre, Rani Verma, Madhupriya Srinivasan, and Bharathi Dev—to form a full and vibrant leadership team.

I could not be more proud of what we have built together over the past eight years. While I will miss this community dearly, I leave filled with gratitude and excitement, knowing the future of VALA is in such caring and capable hands.

If you’re able, I hope to see you one more time at the "Geometric" Reception Event this Friday from 6–8 PM at the VALA Gallery in the McKinney Cotton Mill. Let’s celebrate the art, the journey, and the next horizon.
